Sloppy Garden Joes

(makes 8 servings)

Weight Loss Recipes : Sloppy Garden JoesIngredients:

  • 1 chopped onion


  • 1 chopped carrot


  • ½ chopped green pepper


  • 1 pound extra lean ground turkey (or chicken)


  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce


  • 1 (15 oz.) can crushed tomatoes


  • 1 (8 oz.) can mushrooms


  • ¼ cup barbecue sauce


  • Pepper to taste


  • 8 whole wheat buns


Preparation:

  • Wash fresh vegetables before preparing.


  • In a pan, sauté onions, carrot, green pepper and ground turkey over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes.


  • Add tomato sauce, crushed tomatoes, mushrooms, barbecue sauce and seasonings in a same pan and bring to a boil.


  • Reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.


  • Uncover and cook until thick (about 3 minutes).

  • Serve on toasted or plain buns.
